Released in August, Pokémon Masters became a hit. Its first month revenue amounted to $33.3 million. Nevertheless, players are criticizing its game design. So much, in fact, that the producer of the title had to apologize personally.
Sony, Sega and WarnerMedia claim millions in UK tax relief
Under UK’s Video Games Tax Relief (VGTR) system, game developers can claim back up to 20% of some production costs. Warner Media, which owns Rocksteady (Batman: Arkham series) and Traveller’s Tales (the Lego games), used the policy to claim up to £60m in corporation tax relief. Sony claimed around £30m, while Sega received a £20m tax reduction.
Valve adds X-ray scanner for loot boxes in French CS: GO
The French version of CS: GO now has an X-ray feature that allows users to scan loot boxes and see their contents before making a purchase. You would think Valve is making the lootbox mechanic less exploitative, but not it’s not quite as straightforward.
