Epic Games announced the acquisition of ArtStation.

Following the deal whose terms were not disclosed, the platform for artists will continue to operate independently within Epic and retain “the ArtStation name and spirit.”

Two things, though, the acquisition changed right away. First of all, the ArtStation Marketplace fee has been reduced from 30 percent to 12 percent (that happens to be Epic’s standard fee on all purchases made on the Epic Games Store). Second, ArtStation Learning streaming video service has become free for ArtStation subscribers for the rest of 2021.

“We’re excited for this next chapter of the ArtStation journey,” said Kevin Strike, COO and co-founder of ArtStation. “ArtStation grew into one of the largest creative sites on the internet and became the go-to showcase platform for our industry. As part of Epic, we’ll be able to accelerate ArtStation’s growth and help the creative community in ways we could only imagine before.”

ArtStation has become the latest in a string of acquisitions by Epic that includes 3Lateral, Agog Labs, Psyonix, Twinmotion, Houseparty, Quixel, Cubic Motion, Hyprsense, SuperAwesome, RAD Tools, Tonic Games Group, and Capturing Reality.
