Capcom has announced another major milestone for the Resident Evil 4 remake. The game continues to climb the franchise’s best-selling games list.

Resident Evil 4 has now officially sold over 8 million copies globally, Capcom announced today on X. It took the game 18 months to cross this mark since its launch in March 2023.

Below are the key sales milestones reached by the RE4 remake:

For comparison, the original Resident Evil 4 sold over 13 million units globally. However, this includes various reissues and ports of the game. For example, the GameCube version sold 1.6 million copies, while the PS4/Xbox One edition is the best-selling one, with lifetime sales of 3.2 million.

The RE4 remake currently ranks as the 8th best-selling game in the Resident Evil franchise. The top 10 can be seen below*:

  1. Resident Evil 5 — 14.8 million copies (the original version for PS3/Xbox 360 sold 9.1 million units);
  2. Resident Evil 2 (remake) — 14.2 million copies;
  3. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard — 13.7 million copies;
  4. Resident Evil 4 (original) — 13.3 copies (2005 versions for GameCube and PlayStation 2 sold 1.6 million and 2.3 million units, respectively);
  5. Resident Evil 6 — 12.4 million copies (includes sales of the original game and re-release for PS4/Xbox One);
  6. Resident Evil Village — 10.1 million copies;
  7. Resident Evil 3 (remake) — 9 million copies;
  8. Resident Evil 4 (remake) — 8 million copies;
  9. Resident Evil 2 (original) — 4.96 million copies (PS version);
  10. Resident Evil (HD remaster for PS3) — 4.3 million copies.

As of June 30, 2024, the entire Resident Evil series has sold over 160 million copies globally. It remains Capcom’s best-selling franchise, followed by Monster Hunter (103 million), Street Fighter (55 million), Mega Man (42 million), and Devil May Cry (32 million).
