The remake of Resident Evil 4 has reached another milestone four months after its launch. The game continues to climb up the list of Capcom’s best-selling titles of all time.

Resident Evil 4 remake tops 5 million copies sold, ranking 14th on Capcom's list of platinum titles

On July 20, Capcom announced that Resident Evil 4 has now sold over 5 million copies globally. The publisher noted that sales were driven by critical acclaim and post-release support with free additional content.

The game sold over 3 million units in the first two days since its launch on March 24, hitting the 4 million milestone two weeks later. This means that it took Resident Evil 4 just over three months to sell another million copies.

Where does Resident Evil 4 rank among Capcom’s best-selling games?

With sales of over 5 million units, the RE4 remake is currently ranked 14th on Capcom’s list of platinum titles (games with lifetime sales of over 1 million copies).

When the company updates the data after publishing its quarterly report next week, Resident Evil 4 will be right between Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak (5.4 million copies sold) and the PlayStation version of the original Resident Evil 2 (4.96 million).

Here are the top 15 platinum titles released by Capcom (if we take into account the latest RE4 sales update):

  • Monster Hunter: World — 18.8 million copies;
  • Monster Hunter Rise — 12.7 million copies;
  • Resident Evil 7 — 12 million copies;
  • Resident Evil 2 (remake) — 11.9 million copies;
  • Monster Hunter World: Iceborne — 10.2 million copies;
  • Resident Evil 5 — 8.7 million copies;
  • Resident Evil 6 — 8.6 million copies;
  • Resident Evil Village — 7.9 million copies;
  • Street Fighter V — 7.2 million copies;
  • Resident Evil 3 (remake) — 7 million copies;
  • Devil May Cry 5 — 6.9 million copies;
  • Street Fighter II (SNES) — 6.3 million copies;
  • Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak — 5.4 million copies;
  • Resident Evil 4 (remake) — 5 million copies;
  • Resident Evil 2 (PlayStation) — 4.96 million copies.

It is worth noting that Capcom lists ports and reissues as separte products. For example, there are six different versions of the original Resident Evil 4 (e.g. the GameCube version and the HD edition) on the Platinum Titles list, with total lifetime sales of around 12.3 million units.
