The launch of the Omens of Tyranny update has seen a surge of interest among the Helldivers 2 community. The game is now enjoying impressive CCU numbers and very positive feedback.

Announced and released at The Game Awards 2024, Omens of Tyranny introduced the return of the Illuminate faction, while adding new stuff like a combat vehicle and bringing the fight into the streets.

As a result, Helldivers 2 peaked at 150,169 concurrent users on Steam over the weekend. According to SteamDB, this is the best result since April, when most players still had fun with the game.

For comparison, its daily peak on December 12, the day before the Omens of Tyranny update, was 22.8k CCU.

Player interest in Helldivers 2 has been plummeting since May, with Sony attempting to roll out mandatory PSN account linking and Arrowhead Game Studios killing fun with weird balance patches and a lack of consistent content support.

So it is great to see users coming back to Helldivers 2 and enjoying the game again. Although its overall rating on Steam is still “Mostly Positive” (75%), 95% of the 19.6k reviews left in the last 30 days are positive.

Launched on February 8, Helldivers 2 surpassed 12 million units sold globally in 12 weeks, making it the fastest-selling title published or developed by PlayStation. As of November 22, the game has sold over 15 million copies across PS5 and PC.
