It has been a month since the global launch of miHoYo’s new hit Zenless Zone Zero. According to new estimates, the game has already grossed almost $100 million on iOS and Android.

Zenless Zone Zero generates $100 million on mobile in its first month, but lags behind previous miHoYo games

GachaRevenue, which tracks mobile revenue of gacha games, estimates Zenless Zone Zero’s first-month revenue at $99.8 million. The vast majority of that, $68.8 million, came from China, while the rest of the world brought in $31 million.

According to its FAQ, GachaRevenue uses Sensor Tower data to estimate player spending. Sensor Tower doesn’t track revenue from third-party Android stores in China, so the website’s creator multiples iOS revenue by 1.75 on average to estimate the total for the country. Keep in mind that these may still be pretty rough calculations. Excluding third-party Android stores, Zenless Zone Zero’s iOS-only spending in China would be $25 million.

For comparison, AppMagic data shows that ZZZ reached $62.9 million in net revenue from July 4 to August 4. It is worth noting that the platform doesn’t track third-party Android stores and estimates in-app revenue reduced by platform fees and inclusive taxes, so the numbers are lower than those provided by Sensor Tower (gross player spending).

iOS is the number one platform by revenue, with $45.6 million (72.5% of the total), while Google Play brought in $17.3 million. China (iOS only, excluding third-party Android stores) accounts for 40% of the total, followed by Japan (30%), the US (9%), South Korea (8.7%), and Taiwan (3.6%).

The game currently has a cumulative RpD (revenue per download) of $4.94. Japan leads with $13.1, followed by South Korea ($11.6), Hong Kong ($9), and China ($8.6).

Zenzless Zone Zero lags behind previous miHoYo games in terms of first-month net revenue. According to AppMagic, Genshin Impact made $176.4 million on iOS and Google Play in the first 30 days of its global launch (September 28-October 28, 2020) — up 180% compared to ZZZ. Honkai: Star Rail topped $130 million in IAP revenue in its first month (April 26-May 26, 2023) — up 132%.

When comparing charts, you can also see that ZZZ experienced a huge drop in daily revenue within its first week (see the image above), falling from its peak of $5.19 million to around $670k in the recent days. Below is the first-month performance of Genshin Impact, which had a more stable revenue flows at launch.
