Zenless Zone Zero, a new action RPG from miHoYo, launched globally on July 4. Let’s take a look at its performance on mobile and compare it to the company’s previous hits, Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail.

Zenless Zone Zero hits $3.7 million in mobile revenue, below launches of Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail

  • According to AppMagic, Zenless Zone Zero has already reached $3.99 million in IAP revenue (reduced by platform fees and inclusive taxes) on mobile. On July 4 (launch day), the game generated $3.69 million.
  • China is the number one country by revenue, accounting for 57.6% of the total. The top 5 regions also include Japan (19.7%), the US (11%), Hong Kong (2.5%), and Taiwan (1.8%).

  • Zenless Zone Zero had over 47.5 million pre-registrations, and AppMagic data shows that the game has now generated 5.9 million downloads on iOS and Android.
  • The US leads in installs with 879k (almost 15% of the total), followed by China (13%), Indonesia (6.6%), South Korea (5.8%), and Brazil (5%).

UPDATE (July 7): miHoYo announced that Zenless Zone Zero has reached 50 million downloads globally across all platforms (mobile, PC, and PlayStation 5).

  • Thanks to 1.8 million downloads on July 4, Zenless Zone Zero topped the free charts globally and outperformed games like Roblox, Manage Supermarket Simulator, JindoBlu, and Gametion Global.
  • miHoYo’s new game also ranked 2nd in revenue, behind only Tencent’s massive hit DnF Duel. The other top-grossing mobile titles for July 4 were Royal Match, Honor of Kings, and Roblox.

  • Judging by the metrics, Zenless Zone Zero is having a strong launch, although its launch numbers are lower than miHoYo’s previous two games. Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail reached $4.6 million and $8.3 million in IAP revenue, respectively, in the first 24 hours of launch.
  • Players continue to actively spend money in both titles. On July 4, Genshin Impact generated $1.17 million, and Honkai: Star Rail made $1.12 million. So it will be interesting to check ZZZ’s long-term revenue after several months.

  • It is also worth noting that Zenelss Zone Zero is competing not only with miHoYo’s own portfolio, but with other gacha RPGs. Earlier this year, Chinese studio Kuro Games launched Wuthering Waves, which became a commercial success despite comparisons to Genshin Impact.
  • It generated less than $500k in its first 24 hours, but reached the $10 million mark in the next five days. AppMagic estimates Wuthering Waves’ lifetime revenue on mobile at $65.5 million.
