After nearly three years in Early Access, Baldur’s Gate 3 has finally launched globally. Larian Studios’ latest RPG is now taking Steam by storm.
Released on August 3, Baldur’s Gate 3 has already peaked at 472,136 concurrent players (via SteamDB). The numbers may increase over the weekend, but the first results seem really impressive.
The game also attracted 481,973 peak viewers on Twitch.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is the second biggest launch on Steam this year in terms of peak CCU. It is currently between Hogwarts Legacy (879,308) and Sons of the Forest (414,257). It is worth noting that the latter is now in Early Access.
When looking at other Larian games, Baldur’s Gate 3 leads by a wide margin. Its launch numbers are higher than the peak CCU of Divinity: Original Sin (22,040), its Enhanced Edition (7,565), and Original Sin 2 (93,701) combined.

Interestingly, the Baldur’s Gate 3 hype was so big that it led to users in some regions having trouble connecting to Steam. Larian founder Swen Vincke even said “Sorry” to players experiencing short-term difficulties with the store’s servers.

Based only on recent user reviews over the past 30 days, Baldur’s Gate 3 has a 96% rating (=”Overwhelmingly Positive”) on Steam. Overall, the game has over 75,000 reviews, but most of them were written during the Early Access period.
According to Bloomberg, Early Access sales of Baldur’s Gate 3 amounted to more than 2.5 million units. Vincke previously told Eurogamer that it is five times the EA sales of Divinity: Original Sin 2.
