Citizen Sleeper, an acclaimed role-playing adventure game from Jump Over the Age, has reached an impressive milestone in the two years since its launch.
Jump Over the Age, a one-person studio by developer Gareth Damian Martin, announced on social media that Citizen Sleeper has reached 1 million players.
“I really thought this game was going to be niche…,” Martin commented, implying that these results exceeded their expectations.
The game reached the 500k mark in February 2023, meaning it took about 18 months to attract another 500k players.
It is unclear how the audience is distributed across platforms: PC, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox. Citizen Sleeper is also available on Game Pass, which may account for a large portion of the player base.

Released on May 5, 2022, Citizen Sleeper is a narrative-driven game that combines RPG and visual novel elements, while adding a unique dice-rolling mechanic to its core gameplay loop. It was written and designed by Gareth Damian Martin with the help of a few other people like artist Guillaume Singelin and composer Amos Roddy.
Fellow Traveller served as publisher. The company also worked with Martin on their previous project, sci-fi exploration adventure game In Other Waters.
Citizen Sleeper currently has a “Very Positive” rating on Steam, with 93% of the 5,111 user reviews being positive. It also received a warm reception from critics and was nominated for several industry awards (it won the Social Impact Award at GDCA 2023).
Martin is now working on the sequel, Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector, which is expected to come out in 2025.
