It’s time to wrap up 2024, and here’s a sneak peek at the best-selling video games of the year in Europe. It seems that new releases haven’t performed that great compared to older hits.

GamesIndustry.biz head Christopher Dring shared some data during the latest episode of the GI Microcast. While we have to yet to see the full charts, here are some of the most successful games of 2024 in Europe.

Top 20 best-selling new games of 2024 in Europe*

*The list is based on data from GSD and only includes games released in 2024. Note that the chart doesn’t have some titles (e.g. Black Myth: Wukong, Palworld), which would have ranked high if enough data had been provided. A similar case happened with Baldur’s Gate 3 last year, as GSD only collects digital sales data from participating companies (mostly major publishers and developers).

1. EA Sports FC 25 (#1 overall)
2. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 (#3)
3. Helldivers 2 (#6)
4. Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 (#12)
5. Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO (#13)
6. The Last of Us Part II Remastered (#20)
7. Super Mario Party Jamboree (#22) — physical sales only
8. Astro Bot (#34)
9. Dragon’s Dogma 2 (#37)
10-11. ???
12. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (#43)
13. ???
14. Star Wars Outlaws (#45)
15-18. ???
19. Dragon Age: The Veilguard (#68)

Overall, the top 5 best-selling titles of 2024 in Europe were EA Sports FC 25, EA Sports FC 24, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, GTA V, and Hogwarts Legacy.

Interestingly, Fallout 4 ranked 16th overall thanks to the success of the TV series from Amazon.

As can be seen from the list above, only six new releases made it into the top 20, and one of them (TLoU Part II) was a remastered version of the 2020 game. The first two spots, unsurprisingly, are occupied by new installments in the EA Sports FC and Call of Duty franchises.

Games like Astro Bot, Dragon’s Dogma 2, and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth didn’t sell enough copies to enter the top 30. Star Wars Outlaws and Dragon Age: The Veilguard performed poorly in Europe, with the latter missing the top 50.

According to Dring, sales of new video games in Europe were down 29% compared to 2023.
