Let’s take a look at the results for the final week of 2023 on Steam. The beginning of the Winter Sale has led to numerous shifts in the top-grossing games chart.
On December 21, Larian Studios reduced the price of Baldur’s Gate for the first time since its global launch in August. A small 10% discount helped the game become the highest-grossing product on Steam globally for the week of December 19-26.
BG3 was the leader among both premium and free-to-play titles, outselling Steam Deck, Counter-Strike 2 and Lethal Company.
Thanks to the Winter Sale, which will last until January 4, many older games have returned to the charts, including Elden Ring (#6 overall), Cyberpunk 2077 (#7), Hogwarts Legacy (#13), and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice (#36).
Below are the top 10 Steam games by gross revenue for the week of December 19-26 (excluding F2P titles and Steam Deck):
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Lethal Company
- Call of Duty
- Elden Ring
- Cyberpunk 2077
- EA Sports 24
- Red Dead Redemption 2
- Hogwarts Legacy
- Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty

It is worth noting that Larian’s hit RPG has never left the top 10 weekly top-sellers on Steam since its 1.0 launch. Having peaked at 875k concurrent users at launch, the game continues to attract hundreds of thousands of players on the platform, so retention remains strong. However, it is still unclear how many copies have been sold so far.
We only know that Baldur’s Gate 3 sold around 2.5 million units during its Early Access period. It also topped revenue charts in the US and UK in August, according to Newzoo.
On November 30, Larian announced that over 1.3 million had completed the game since its 1.0 launch. This allowed us to make some rough guesstimates, putting its sales at around 7-8 million copies across PC and PS5. With its ongoing success on Steam and the release of the Xbox version, total sales might soon hit the 10 million mark. But it is still better to wait when the studio decides to disclose the official data.
