Steam doesn’t give away free games often, but when it does, it is a great way for indie developers to increase their audience. Here are the results achieved by Bedtime Digital Games and its adventure puzzle platformer Figment.

100k players got a free copy of Figment every day during its Steam giveaway

Bedtime Digital Games shared the data on Steam, saying that “more than 100,000 people got themselves a free copy of the game each day.” Given that Figment was free to download from March 2 to March 9, this giveaway resulted in over 700,000 new players.

The game also broke its own player count record, peaking at 4,232 concurrent users on March 2 (via SteamDB). Bedtime also noted that the number of peak daily active players reached 47,000. These are impressive results for a game from a small indie team.

Launched in September 2017, Figment is an action adventure game with puzzle elements set in the hand-painted world of the human mind. The player has to solve puzzles and fight fears, with music being an integral part of this surreal universe.

Figment received generally positive reviews from critics and currently has an 87% rating on Steam based on 826 user reviews.

Bedtime decided to make the game free for a week leading up to the release of the sequel. Interestingly, the studio has already hosted Figment giveaway on the Epic Games Store in 2020, but it is unclear how many players ended up getting it on the platform.

Figment 2: Creed Valley came out on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch on March 9, and players who already own a copy of the first title can buy it with an extra 33% discount.
