It’s been almost two weeks since the launch of Helldivers 2, but player interest in the game is only growing. The co-op third-person shooter, developed by Arrowhead Game Studios and published by PlayStation, may soon enter the top 20 most played titles on Steam of all time.
According to SteamDB, Helldivers 2 once again broke its CCU record over the weekend, peaking at 409,367 concurrent players. This is the second-best result this year, behind only Palworld (2.1 million CCU).
The 409k peak also makes Helldivers 2 the 24th most played game on Steam ever, above GTA V (364.5k CCU), Hitman 2 (361k CCU), Monster Hunter: World (334.6k CCU), and Starfield (330.7k CCU).
Its player count is now just a couple of thousands shy of World of Warships (411.3k CCU), Postal (412k CCU), and Sons of the Forest (414.2k CCU). Given the current dynamics, Helldivers 2 has every chance to beat Among Us (447.4k CCU) and break into the top 20.
Below is the full top 20, which includes titles like PUBG (3.2 million CCU), Counter-Strike 2/CS:GO (1.8 million CCU), Cyberpunk 2077 (1 million CCU), Elden Ring (953.4k CCU), Hogwarts Legacy (879k CCU), and Baldur’s Gate 3 (875k CCU).
Released on February 8, Helldivers 2 quickly became Sony’s biggest PC launch on Steam in terms of peak CCU, surpassing titles like God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, and Horizon Zero Dawn. The game’s peak concurrent player count is now higher than all other PlayStation’s PC releases combined (311k CCU).

The massive success of Helldivers 2 was 100% unexpected for Arrhowhead Game Studios. According to the studio’s creative director Johan Pilestedt, the game attracted around 500k concurrent players on PlayStation and Steam at peak. With Helldivers 2 continuing to break records on PC, the combined CCU on both platforms might now be even higher.
Such huge player interest caused many technical issues, with Arrowhead saying that it is “still struggling to keep up with the scaling that is needed to accommodate all our Helldivers.” To improve server stability, the studio had to cap concurrent players to around to around 450k. This means when server capacity is improved, the game may break some more records.
