Hogwarts Legacy is having a massive launch both in terms of sales and player count. The latest game based on the Harry Potter franchise has already become one of the most played titles on Steam of all time.
The Avalanche Software-developed game started gaining momentum last week, when users who purchased the deluxe edition managed to play it 72 hours earlier. A couple of days before its official launch on February 10, the number of peak concurrent players in Hogwarts Legacy approached the 400k mark on Steam.
On February 12, the game peaked at 879,308 concurrent players, according to SteamDB. This is one of the best results in platform history, especially for a single-player title.
At the moment of writing, Hogwarts Legacy is the 8th most played game on Steam of all time, behind New World (913k peak concurrent players), Elden Ring (953k), and Cyberpunk 2077 (1 million). It also managed to get ahead of titles like Goose Goose Duck (702k), Apex Legends (511k), and Valheim (502k).
PUBG is still the number one game by all-time peak concurrent players, with 3.2 million. It is followed by Lost Ark (1.32 million), CS:GO (1.3 million), and Dota 2 (1.2 million).

Hogwarts Legacy also topped the UK Boxed Charts (tracks only physical sales), according to GfK data (via GamesIndustry.biz). Its launch sales in the country were the best for any Harry Potter game and 64% higher than the previous best, 2001’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.
First-week sales of Hogwarts Legacy in the UK are also 80% up compared to last year’s smashing hit Elden Ring. PlayStation 5 accounted for 82% of its sales, followed by Xbox Series X|S (18%).
On top of that, Hogwarts Legacy occupied the first four places on Steam’s weekly top sellers chart. The other best-selling products include Steam Deck (5th), Dead Space (7th), and Dying Light 2 (9th).
Taking this data into account, Hogwarts Legacy has every chance to become one of, if not the best-selling games of 2023 globally. Warner Bros. Games has yet to announce official figures, but this once again shows the power of the world-famous IP.
