After almost two years in Early Access, the full version of Ready or Not has finally launched globally. The tactical shooter is showing great numbers on Steam, and indie studio VOID Interactive is committed to providing long-term support for the game.

Ready or Not peaks at over 55k concurrent players after its 1.0 launch on Steam

Released on December 13, Ready or Not is a first-person shooter featuring tactical gameplay, a single-play campaign, and co-op missions. It received positive reviews from critics with an average Metascore of 80. The user score is much higher at 9.4.

The game also has a “Very Positive” rating on Steam, with 90% of more than 100k reviews being positive. However, recent score (based on reviews left in the past 30 days) is lower at 80%, as players criticize some aspects of version 1.0 such as problems with enemy AI, cut content, and performance isssues.

VOID Interactive has already addressed the main concerns, promising hot fixes and a roadmap detailing its plans for post-launch support.

Judging by publicly available metrics, Ready or Not has been a successful launch for the studio. According to SteamDB, it initially peaked at over 52k concurrent players and then reached 55,174 CCU over the weekend.

This makes Ready or Not the 24th most played game on Steam of 2023*, ahead of titles like Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader (45.4k CCU), Risk of Rain Returns (45.1k CCU), Age of Wonders 4 (42.8k CCU), Atomic Heart (38.4k CCU), and Mortal Kombat 1 (38.1k CCU).

*SteamDB data shows that Ready or Not ranks 25th in peak CCU this year, but Tale of Immortal reached its peak of 184k concurrent players in February 2021 — well before its full launch on May 26, 2023.

Although Ready or Not is currently behind other hit releases of 2023, including Star Wars Jedi: Survivor (67.8k CCU) and Street Fighter 6 (70.5k CCU), this is still a strong debut for the game made by independent studio.

Now based in Ireland, VOID Interactive was founded in 2016 by three young men from Australia and New Zealand who played DayZ together. They decided to make a realistc tactical shooter inspired by Squad and the SWAT series.

Ready or Not originally launched in Early Access on Decemebr 17, 2021. It was supposed to be published by Team17, but the studio eventually parted ways with the company. This happened right after the studio introduced a school shooting level, but VOID Interactive then denied the speculation, saying that it was just the “right pass” for the future of the game.

The school shooting mission wasn’t the only controversy surrounding the game. Last year, Ready or Not was delisted from Steam due to a takedown request concerning a trademark infringement in its night club level. VOID Interactive managed to quickly resolve the issue and bring the game back on the store.
