Risk of Rain Returns, a remastered version of the 2013 roguelike/platformer, has proven to be a success for Hopoo Games. It attracted tens of thousands of concurrent players, making a strong debut on Steam’s weekly charts.

Krafton’s free-to-play battle royale PUBG: Battlegrounds was the top-selling product on Steam globally for the week of November 7-14, followed by Call of Duty, Counter-Strike 2, Steam Deck, and Risk of Rain Returns.

So when it comes to premium games alone, Hopoo’s latest project is second only to Activision’s AAA blockbuster in terms of gross revenue.

There were plenty of interesting shifts on the charts last week. Lethal Company, a co-op horror game by Zeekerss, climbed 23 places and landed to #8 overall, and Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name rose from #90 to #12.

According to SteamDB, Risk of Rain Returns also peaked at 45,141 concurrent players. This is eight times more than the original game’s peak. Risk of Rain 2 remains the leader, with over 71k concurrent users.

Top Hopoo Games’ titles on Steam by peak CCU

Launched on November 8, Risk of Rain Returns is a remaster of Hopoo Games’ breakout roguelike that features revised graphics and lots of new content like stage variants, survivors, loot, and enemies. It currently has a “Very Positive” rating on Steam, with 82% of the 8,036 user reviews being positive.

The remaster’s release was timed to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the original game, which received positive reviews and sold over 3 million copies. Gearbox also released the Risk of Rain documentary to celebrate the milestone.
