Developer Blue Box Game Studios said it has been receiving death threats for several months now. The last several days, they have been increasing both online and offline, which made the studio consider handing IP addresses, logs and camera footage to the police.

Blue Box is known for its upcoming title Abandoned, which fans believed was a code name for a rumored new Silent Hill game from Hideo Kojima. The studio has repeatedly denied these speculations while at the same time seemingly hinting at the project’s connection to the Silent Hill IP. Apparently, this has angered those who got their hopes up and felt betrayed.

What started in June 2021 as a fun and elaborate conspiracy theory has now clearly gotten out of hand, with fans apparently venting their frustration by sending threats to the developers.

“We are fully aware of the negative situation we have created and we truly understand your frustration,” the statement reads. “But what we don’t understand are the death threats.” “This Blue Box is saying not “as a company, but as a group of human beings.”
