Balancing monetization and narrative in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery talked to Josh Yguado, president of Jam City, the studio that developed the mobile RPG Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery.

The biggest Hogwarts mystery prior to the launch was whether the developer would be able to combine the free-to-play monetization strategies with a compelling narrative-driven RPG experience.

The game’s performance shows that the studio succeeded.  As of March 2019, the title amassed 45 million downloads globally and brought in $100 million.


PUBG Mobile MAUs Exceed 100M, Mobile Battle Royales Bring In Over $2B in Less than 2 Years

100 million monthly active users (MAUs) now play the mobile version of PUBG, according to App Annie via VentureBeat. That doesn’t include players in China, where Tencent, the game’s publisher, had to shut the game down.

The battle royale shooter debuted on mobile slightly over a year ago, so this result is impressive. Since it’s launch on iOS and Android, PUBG has brought in more than $100 million for Tencent.
