Critical acclaim and a very positive player reception have translated into strong sales for the Silent Hill 2 remake. Here is how the game is doing commercially in Europe.

Silent Hill 2 selling better in Europe than AW2, with PS5 accounting for 78% of its launch sales

GI.biz head Christopher Dring, who regularly reports sales figures based on data from firms like GSD and GfK, shared some information about the launch of Silent Hill 2 in Europe in the latest GamesIndustry.biz Microcast:

  • 78% of the game’s sales in Europe came from PS5, with PC accounts for the remaining 22%;
  • Europe isn’t the number one market for Silent Hill 2, accounting for about 20% of its life-to-date worldwide sales;
  • Despite its strong commercial performance, Silent Hill isn’t the biggest horror franchise, lagging behind the likes of Resident Evil;
  • Even the Dead Space remake, which didn’t meet Electronic Arts’ expectations, “did a little better in Europe” than Bloober Team’s latest title;
  • However, Silent Hill 2 is selling better than other major horror releases like The Callisto Protocol and Alan Wake 2.

Last week, Konami announced that the Silent Hill 2 remake had surpassed 1 million copies globally in just three days. For comparison, the original game took about a month to cross that mark. We don’t know how much money Bloober Team and Konami spent to develop the remake, but selling 1 million units at launch is still impressive.

Later in the podcast, Dring also noted that Metaphor: ReFantazio had a “really decent launch” in Europe, with its initial sales on par with Dragon’s Dogma 2. Atlus’ latest game also outperformed other RPGs from Sega this year: Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth and Persona 3 Reload.

It is worth noting that Metaphor: ReFantazio sold over 1 million copies globally in its first 24 hours. For comparison, it took Infinite Wealth and P3 Reload each one week to cross that mark, while Dragon’s Dogma 2 sold 2.5 million units in 11 days.

Another new release mentioned by Dring is Undisputed, a boxing game developed by Steel City Interactive and published by Deep Silver. It became the 4th biggest sports game launch this year in Europe, behind only EA Sports FC 25, NBA 2K25, and F1 24.
