Metaphor: ReFantazio has been off to an impressive start, promising to become another success for Atlus this year. Let’s take a close look at its launch and first metrics.

Metaphor: ReFantazio hits 1 million copies sold at launch

Launched on October 11, Metaphor: ReFantazio received universal critical acclaim, with an average score on Metacritic ranging from 91 (PC) to 93 (PS5).

Player reception has also been warm so far. The game currently has a “Very Positive” rating on Steam, with 90% of the 549 user reviews being positive.

Thanks to pre-orders, Metaphor: ReFantazio was also the 21st highest-grossing game on Steam for the week of October 1-8.

According to SteamDB, the game has already peaked at 61,969 concurrent players. This makes it one of the top releases this year by that metric, ranking right between Gray Zone Warfare (72.5k CCU) and Dark and Darker (57.1k CCU).

The 61.9k peak puts Metaphor: ReFantazio at #1 in terms of peak CCU among Atlus-developed games on Steam. It is followed by Persona 3 Reload (45k CCU), Persona 5 Royal (35.4k CCU), and Persona 4 Golden (29.9k CCU).

Shortly after its global launch, Atlus announced on its official website that Metaphor: ReFantazio has already sold over 1 million copies globally. This included physical copies shipped to retailers and digital units.

The game is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS4/PS5, but it is unclear how the figures are split between platforms.

This is another successful release for the Japanese developer this year. Persona 3 Reload sold 1 million copies in its first week, while Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance reached 500k units sold in its first three days.
