Konami has shared the first sales data for the Silent Hill 2 remake. Let’s take a look at the figures and compare them to the original game.

Silent Hill 2 remake sells 1 million copies in just three days

The Silent Hill 2 remake has surpassed 1 million copies globally within three days of its launch on October 8, Konami announced in a press release. This includes digital units and shipments to retailers.

The game is available on PC and PlayStation 5, but it is unclear how the figures are split between platforms.

For comparison, the original Silent Hill 2 crossed the 1 million mark about a month after its launch. The US accounted for the majority of copies sold, followed by Japan and Europe.

Konami hasn’t updated the data in a while, but the first four titles in the series have sold 6.9 million copies as of December 31, 2009. As of December 2017, the entire Silent Hill franchise has sold just over 9 million units.

Despite the critical reception and the cult following that original games had, Silent Hill was never the company’s top franchise sales-wise. For example, the Metal Gear series has sold 61.7 million copies globally as of June 30, 2024, and the Power Pros IP has lifetime sales of 25.2 million units.

Silent Hill 2 has been performing well on the Steam charts, ranking as the 6th highest-grossing game on the platform for the week of October 1-8. In remained in the top 10 the following week, behind only EA Sports FC 25, Metaphor: ReFantazio, and Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO (when looking at premium titles only).

The game currently has a “Very Positive” (94%) rating on Steam based on more than 12.5k user reviews. It also peaked at 23,676 concurrent players, making it Konami’s third-biggest title by peak CCU — behind only Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (91.1k CCU) and free-to-play CCG Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel (262.6k CCU).
