Mortal Kombat is the best-selling fighting game franchise of all time. And here is the estimated profit generated by MK11, its most successful installment.

Mortal Kombat 11 profit — $500 million

Twitter user Timur222 was the first to spot the information after viewing a LinkedIn profile of Matt Welsh, who served as global brand manager at Warner Bros from March 2019 to February 2022.

Describing his professional experience, Welsh noted that he led the entire product and marketing campaign for Mortal Kombat 11, as well as its Kombat Packs and the Aftermarth expansion. He also claimed that the game has “generated over $500MM in LTD profit.”

Although Welsh may know the sales and revenue data, neither Warner Bros. nor NetherRealm have ever reported official figures on the matter.

What we do know is that Mortal Kombat 11 has sold over 15 million units globally since its launch in April 2019. This makes it the best-selling game in the fighting franchise, followed by Mortal Kombat X with over 12 million copies sold.

Overall, total sales of the entire series, which includes 11 main installments and several spin-offs, have surpassed 79 million units worldwide since 1992.

Even though we don’t know the development and marketing budgets for Mortal Kombat 11, the $500 million figure is still an impressive feat.

Right now, NetherRealm is working on its next game. Earlier this year, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav stated that Mortal Kombat 12 will be released this year “with ambitious launch projections.” The game hasn’t been officially announced yet, but the time for a new MK project has definitely come.
