The Finas has been a huge success for developer Embark Studios and publisher Nexon. The debut game from former Battlefield developers has already been played by more than 10 million people globally.

Embark Studios shared the news X (formerly Twitter), thanking players for downloading The Finals. It took the free-to-play multiplayer shooter 14 days since its launch on December 8 to cross the million mark.

The Finals, which is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5, currently holds an average score of 76 on Metacritic (based on just seven reviews). On Steam, it has a “Mostly Positive” rating, with 74% of the nearly 80k user reviews being positive.

Shortly after its launch, the game peaked at 242,619 concurrent players on Valve’s platform (via SteamDB). This makes it the 5th most played new game of 2023 by peak CCU, behind only Starfield (330k), Sons of the Forest (414k), Baldur’s Gate 3 (875k), and Hogwarts Legacy (879k).

As can be seen in the graph below, The Finals continues to attract between 100k and 150k concurrent players every day, indicating strong player interest. However, the long-term success of the game will depend on the frequency of content updates and how well Embark Studios can address the main issues.

Being the free-to-play title, The Finals is monetized through cosmetics and battle passes. It is now one of the highest-grossing games on Steam globally. For the week of December 12-19, The Finals ranked 6th in gross revenue on the platform, right between Baldur’s Gate 3 and Dota 2.
