The top 3 games on Steam by gross revenue remained unchanged from the previous week. However, there were still plenty of events to cover, including the successful launch of Tactical Breach Wizards and strong pre-orders for upcoming major titles.

Tactical Breach Wizards

Black Myth: Wukong, fueled by its record-breaking launch, was the highest-grossing product on Steam for the week of August 20-27. It is followed by Counter-Strike 2 and PUBG, while Dota 2 swapped places with Steam Deck in the top 5.

The surprises start further down the charts, with Warframe moving up 16 positions to #6 overall thanks to the launch of The Lotus Eaters quest and new Prime Access.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 moved from 11th to 7th place overall (#2 when only looking at premium games), driven by pre-orders ahead of its September 9 launch.

The 40% discount helped Diablo IV jump 30 positions to #11 overall (#4 among premium titles). Another Blizzard game, Overwatch 2, soared 71 spots to 19th overall following the launch of Season 12.

雀魂麻將, the China-only version of free-to-play game MahjongSoul, returned to the global Steam charts at #10 overall after the start of a new summer event.

Sins of a Solar Empire II fell 14 places from the previous week, but remained in the top 10 premium titles.

Tactical Breach Wizards, a new turn-based tactics game from small indie studio Suspicious Developments (Gunpoint, Heat Signature), ranked as the 10th highest-grossing premium title last week (#21 overall).

Following its impressive performance during the latest Next Fest, TBW launched on August 22 to “Overwhelmingly Positive” reviews (98% of the 1,913 user reviews on Steam are positive). According to SteamDB, the game also peaked at 4,761 concurrent players, which is a strong start for a single-player indie title made by a small team.

Despite being almost half a year away from its February 11 launch, Sid Meier’s Civilization VII landed at #14 overall (#5 among premium games). And Civilization VI landed at #31 thanks to its 90% discount.

Looking at other unreleased titles on the charts, pre-orders for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 ranked 8th overall. It is followed by Kingdom Come: Deliverance II (#33), Final Fantasy XVI (#40), and Age of Mythology: Retold (#55).

Interestingly, Helldivers 2 almost dropped out of the top 50 highest-grossing Steam games, falling to #49 overall. Many players are unhappy with the current state of Arrowhead’s PvE shooter, resulting in “Mixed” recent reviews (40% positive).
