Larian Studios is expanding by opening its seventh office worldwide. The new Warsaw-based hub will join the rest of the team to work on the company’s next ambitious RPGs following the success of Baldur’s Gate 3.

Larian Studios continues its global expansion by opening new office in Poland

Divinity and BG3 creator Larian decided to open a new studio in Poland because it is one of the biggest game development hubs in Europe, home to companies such as CD Projekt, Techland, 11 bit studios, Bloober Team, and People Can Fly.

Larian Warsaw will be led by Urszula (Ula) Jach, former managing director and board advisor at GOG.com. “We’re thrilled for the opportunity to collaborate with the abundant talent and expertise of the region, especially considering Poland’s strong reputation as a hub for RPG and gaming enthusiasts,” she said in a statement.

According to its official website, Larian has several open positions at its new office in Warsaw, including RPG designer, graphics programmer, tools programmer, and writer.

“Our plan for the Polish studio is very simple. Build a team that can work on our two — very ambitious – new RPGs and enjoy the fruits of their labor,” CEO Swen Vincke said. “We’re a very bottom up company so I’m eager to see what new things they’ll bring us. I think it’ll work really well.”

Larian also has six studios across the globe: Gent (Belgium), Barcelona (Spain), Quebec (Canada), Dublin (Ireland), Guildford (England), and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). It also had a studio in St. Petersburg, Russia, but had to close it in 2022 due to the beginning of the war in Ukraine.

Opening a new office in Warsaw is in line with the company’s strategy to create a 24-hour development cycle. As Vincke explained last year, if an office in Europe makes a feature, they will know by the next day if it worked or not thanks to feedback from the QA team in Malaysia.

It is unclear what two RPGs that Larian has in works, but the Baldur’s Gate 3 sequel certainly won’t be one of them. Last year, Vincke also called himself a big fan of sci-fi, so who knows? And let’s not forget the Divinity IP, which found global success with the Original Sin series.

BG3 became one of the biggest hits in the RPG genre of all time, having already sold around 15 million units globally. Check our article on the history of Larian Studios to learn about their rocky relationships with publishers and see how they survived against all odds.
