More sales data on PlayStation’s first-party games has emerged as a result of a ransomware attack suffered by Insomniac Games. It also includes information about titles like Bloodborne and Days Gone, figures for which Sony hasn’t updated in years.

PlayStation game sales leak shows that Bloodborne and Days Gone sold over 7 million copies each

Following the leak of Sony’s best-selling PC game ports and budgets/ROI of Insomniac’s projects, users on ResetEra and other online forums discovered a table containing sales figures for many PS4 and PS5 titles.

It shows the best-selling PlayStation games in fiscal years 2021 (ended March 31, 2022) and 2020 (ended March 31, 2021), as well as sell-through figures for the company’s back catalog titles. Although the exact date when this table was compiled is unclear, the information is likely current as of February 2022.

PlayStation game sales (sell-through)

When it comes to Sony’s first-party titles released in FY21, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart led the pack with 2.34 million units sold. As another leak revealed, the game struggled to recoup its total budget of $81 million, but given the time that has passed and its PC port, it has likely ended up being profitable.

Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut has sold 1.49 million copies from its release in August 2021 to February 2022. It is worth noting that according to Sucker Punch, its lifetime sales, including the base game launched in July 2020, have reached 9.73 million units globally.

Death Stranding Director’s Cut, launched in September 2021, sold 201k copies in about five months. As Kojima Productions announced last week, the game has been played by over 16 million players (full-game sales on PlayStation and PC, as well as PS Plus and Game Pass subscriptions) since its original release in November 2019.

When looking at FY20 titles, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales holds the crown with 10.18 million copies sold between November 2020 and February 2022. From the Insomniac leak, we also know that the game had a total budget of $156 million and impressive ROI of 122%.

Other titles on the table include The Last of US Part II (9.63 million), Demon’s Souls Remake (1.85 million), MLB The Show 21 (1.6 million), Sackboy: A Big Adventure (1.28 million), Returnal (866k), Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection (329k), and Predator: Hunting Grounds (778k).

Best-selling games in Sony’s back catalog

Below are the top 10 best-selling first-party titles in PlayStation’s back catalog (as of early 2022):

  • Marvel’s Spider-Man — 22.12 million copies;
  • God of War (2018) — 20.82 million copies;
  • Horizon Zero Dawn — 19.26 million copies;
  • Uncharted 4 — 18.61 million copies;
  • The Last of Us — 18.24 million copies;
  • Gran Turismo Sport — 12.72 million copies;
  • Uncharted Collection — 9.68 million copies;
  • Bloodborne — 7.46 million copies;
  • Days Gone — 7.32 million copies;
  • Ratchet & Clank (2016) — 6.97 million copies.

This data not only shows the success of Sony’s main IPs — Spider-Man, Uncharted, God of War, Horizon, and TLoU, — but also sheds light on the commercial performance of titles that the company chose not to report publicly.

For example, we now know that Bloodborne sold nearly 7.5 million copies between March 2015 and February 2022. The last time Sony disclosed any sales data about the game was in September 2015, when the 2 million milestone was announced.

The leak also shows that Days Gone has sold over 7 million units sold on PS4 globally. Sony, however, canceled the sequel, which former Bend creative director John Garvin attributed to the game’s low Metascore: “If you’re the creative director on a franchise and your game is coming out to a 70 [on Metacritic], you’re not going to be the creative director on that franchise for very long.”

It is worth noting that the PC version of Days Gone, launched in May 2021, received positive reviews from players and became Sony’s third best-selling title on the platform — behind only God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn.

Other back catalog titles on the list include God of War 3 Remastered (5.57 million copies), Detroit Become Human (5.4 million), LittleBigPlanet 3 (5.39 million), inFamous Second Son (5 million), and Until Dawn (3.9 million).
