Since King launched Candy Crush Saga in 2012, it has remained the top match-3 game for monthly global consumer spend. Until now.

In April 2020, Gardenscapes from Playrix has surpassed Candy Crush Saga for monthly global consumer spend across iOS and Android. This is according to PocketGamer.biz, which cites data from App Annie.

Data from another analyst firm, AppMagic, suggests that in April, Gardenscapes generated $57.9 million, which brings its lifetime revenue to around  $1.38 billion.

This shift in the balance of power might be due to the unusual player behaviour associated with coronavirus lockdowns. We’ll just have to wait and see if Gardenscapes manages to keep the top spot in May.
