Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader has been another success for Owlcat Games. According to GameDiscoverCo’s estimates, it became the highest-grossing new release on Steam last month.

Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader is estimated to have grossed over $12.5 million on Steam in its first month

Simon Carless shared the data in the latest GameDiscoverCo newsletter, saying that Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader reached around $12.6 million in gross revenue (before Valve’s 30% cut, refunds, and taxes) on Steam in its first month.

As a result, Owlcat’s RPG outperformed another popular new release of December, House Flipper 2, whose gross revenue is estimated at over $9 million.

It is worth noting that GameDiscoverCo’s estimates only apply to Steam. So Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader’s total revenue should be higher, since it is also available on the Epic Games Store, GOG, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Launched on December 7, the game peaked at 45,405 concurrent players on Steam, just 1,320 short of Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous’s all-time high. Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader also ranked 7th in peak CCU among nearly 1,500 titles with the CRPG tag, above Pillars of Eternity (45.4k), Star Wars: The Old Republic (34.2k), and Wasteland 3 (24.5k).

Owlcat Games has yet to disclose the official sales figures for Rogue Trader, but it is definitely a commercially successful release. Following its launch, the game debuted at #5 on Steam’s weekly top sellers chart and became the second highest-grossing premium title for the week of December 5-12. It fell to #19 the next week and currently remains in the top 50 highest-grossing products on the platform.

However, it is still unclear whether Rogue Trader’s launch was more successful than Owlcat’s previous RPG, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, which sold over 250k copies in its first week (its lifetime sales topped 1 million units in January 2023).

Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader currently has a “Mostly Positive” rating on Steam, with 74% of the 7.9k reviews being positive. This is well below the game’s 88% score at launch, but the studio continues to work on patches to fix the main bugs and issues.
