It’s been two days since Epic Games announced its decision to donate the Fortnite revenue to humanitarian relief efforts in Ukraine. The company has already raised $50 million.
Players spent $36 million on different in-game purchases in Fortnite during the first 24 hours since Epic Games announced the initiative.
As of March 22, the company collected another $14 million, bringing the total sum to $50 million. The Fortnite developer will be donating all the game proceeds until April 3, 2022.
All this money will go to charities “providing emergency aid, including health support, food and clean water, essential supplies, legal aid, and shelter.” As of now, Epic Games is directing funds to Direct Relief, Unicef, the United Nations World Food Programme, and UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, with more organizations to be added in the future.
Xbox has also joined the effort, pledging to donate all the Fortnite proceeds from the Microsoft Store between March 20 and April 3, 2022.
