Pokémon TCG Pocket is based on the original collectible card game, which was first released in Japan in 1996. Players collect and trade various digital Pokémon cards, while also building decks to fight enemies or other players online.

The game is developed by DeNa, known for mobile gacha game Pokémon Masters EX, in partnership with The Pokémon Company and Creatures Inc., the creator of the original board version of Pokémon TCG. The latter also co-owns The Pokémon Company along with Nintendo and Game Freak.
