China has shared a new batch of games approved for publication in August. The National Press and Publication Administration (NPPA) licensed over 100 domestic games, in addition to 15 titles from foreign devs early last month.

The NPPA approved 117 domestic games for publishing in China on August 31. The list, which can be found on the regulator’s official website, includes titles from companies such as Tencent, NetEase, Perfect World, Yoozoo Games, and 37Games.
Here are some of the products licensed in August:
- Battle Through the Heavens: The Legend of Xiao Yan (斗破苍穹:萧炎传) — new game from 37 Interactive Entertainment, based on the Chinese eponymous novel (also translated as “Fights Break Spheres”);
- Project: The Outcast (异人之下) — 3D fighting game by Tencent based on its webcomic Under One Person and anime series Hitori no Shita: The Outcast;
- Fragpunk (界外狂潮) — upcoming 5v5 hero shooter by NetEase and its subsidiary Bad Guitar Studio;
- Arknights: Endfield (明日方舟:终末地) — 3D action RPG by Hypergryph, developer of free-to-play mobile hit Arknights;
- Dawn of the Wasteland (荒原曙光) — action survival game published by Alibaba’s subsidiary Lingxi Games.
On August 1, the NPPA also approved the first batch of foreign games since June, when Valorant, Black Desert Online, Railbound, and others were licensed. A total of 15 titles received publishing licenses last month, including:
- Rainbow Six (PC and mobile);
- Mario Golf: Super Rush;
- Paper Mario: The Origami King;
- Marvel Rivals (titled “Marvel Confrontation”);
- Marvel Snap (titled “Marvel’s Ultimate Reversal”);
- Final Fantasy XIV: Crystal World (mobile);
- Dynasty Warriors (mobile);
- Super Robot (mobile).
As reported by South China Morning Post, the 117 domestic games licensed in August were the largest batch of approvals this year. This brings the total number of approved titles in the first eight months of 2024 to 850 — compared to 609 in the same period last year.
