Honor of Kings, one of the highest-grossing mobile games of all time, launched outside of China on June 20. Tencent has now revealed the first major milestone for its hit MOBA.

Global version of Honor of Kings hits 50 million downloads in its first month

The company’s subsidiaries, developer TiMi Studios and publisher Level Infinite, took to social media to reveal that the global version of Honor of Kings has generated over 50 million downloads in its first month.

Tencent hasn’t disclosed the game’s revenue. According to AppMagic, Honor of Kings has generated around $5 million in IAP revenue (reduced by platform fees and inclusive taxes) outside of China since June 20. The US accounts for 24% of the total, followed by Indonesia (15%), Malaysia (14.4%), Philippines (6%), and Singapore (5%).

In terms of downloads, the top five countries on iOS and Android are Indonesia (47%), Philippines (25%), Malaysia (5.4%), Brazli (4%), and the US (3.3%). It is worth noting that AppMagic doesn’t track data from third-party Android stores, so the total revenue and download numbers could be slightly different.

This is also not the first time Tencent tried to release the global version of its chart-topping MOBA. In 2017, the company launched a separate game titled Arena of Valor. It surpassed $1 billion in revenue last year (via data.ai).

The original Honor of Kings came out in November 2015 and remained exclusive to China. The regional lock didn’t stop it from becoming one of the top-grossing mobile games globally, with AppMagic estimating its lifetime net revenue from in-app purchases at $11.7 billion (iOS alone, excluding third-party Android stores).

According to Tencent, Honor of Kings has 100 million daily active players.
