Square Enix has finally released the Kingdom Hearts series on Steam. Let’s take a look at how these games performed on the platform in terms of peak CCU and audience reception.
Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX
Kingdom Hearts is a crossover franchise featuring various Disney and Final Fantasy characters, which originally gained popularity on consoles. PC players were introduced to these action RPGs in 2021, when Square Enix released collections of several titles on the Epic Games Store.
On June 13, the three HD collections arrived on Steam, attracting modest interest from users. Here is some data from SteamDB:
- Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX (includes remasters of the first two games and four spin-offs) — 6,809 concurrent players;
- Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind (the third game and its expansion) — 871 concurrent players;
- Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue (includes three prequels to the third main installment in the series) — 186 concurrent players.
The collections received generally positive reviews on Steam. Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind currently has a “Very Positive” rating (91% based on just 95 reviews), HD 2.8 holds an 81% score (39 reviews), while HD 1.5+2.5 has a “Mostly Positive” rating (77%, 632 reviews).
People are mostly happy that they can finally play the Kingdom Hearts series on Steam, also joking about how they patiently waited for more than three years to buy these games. However, a lot of players also criticized the collections for crashes and other technical issues, many of which remained unfixed since the EGS launch.
The first Kingdom Hearts title came out in 2002, and the series currently includes 13 games in total. The franchise has since sold over 36 million copies globally.
