Monopoly GO! has achieved an impressive milestone just seven months after its global launch. This is a big success for Scopely and its new owner, Saudi Arabia’s Savvy Games Group.

  • On November 16, Scopely announced that Monopoly Go has surpassed $1 billion in revenue since its launch in April 2023 (via GamesBeat). It is now the fastest casual title to hit this mark.
  • Monopoly Go has also generated over 100 million downloads globally. According to Scopely, the game currently averages over $200 million in revenue per month, so its rapid growth continues.
  • Chief revenue officer Tim O’Brien noted that Monopoly Go has consistently been charting as the #1 mobile game and app in the US since its launch. The game also shows “player retention that we haven’t seen for years in mobile,” making it a highly profitable business for the company.

Founded in 2011, Scopely is best known for mobile games like Marvel Strike Force and Star Trek Fleet Command. Last year, it acquired Fall Guys-like mobile hit Stumble Guys from Finnish studio Kitka Games. Monopoly Go is the company’s latest hit, which has already taken the leading position in its portfolio.

According to AppMagic estimates, Scopely games have generated over $7.6 billion in player spending. The US is the number one country by revenue, accounting for 74% of the total, followed by the UK (5%), Canada (4%), Germany (4%), and France (2%).

In April, Savvy Games Group, owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, acquired Scopely for $4.9 billion. This will allow Scopely to expand into new areas such as PC and consoles.

This is also the sixth largest-ever M&A deal in the games industry, behind Microsoft-Zenimax ($7.5 billion), Tencent-Supercell ($8.6 billion), Take-Two-Zynga ($12.7 billion), and Microsoft-Activision Blizzard ($68.7 billion).
