It Takes Two has reached a new milestone. It has sold over 10 million copies globally, which makes it the most commercially succesful game in Hazelight Stuios’ portfolio.

It Takes Two sales hit 10 million copies, according to Hazelight Studios

Hazelight shared the news on Twitter, adding that “we never dared to dream of so many fans.” Given that It Takes Two is a cooperative-only game, potentially twice as many people could have played it.

Josef Fares, the studio’s founder and director of the game, also thanked fans for their support. “We still can’t believe it. Nobody expected this. Thank you all.”

In February 2022, Hazelight Studios reported that It Takes Two had sold five million units globally in less than a year since its launch on March 26, 2021. Overall, it took the game a year and 10 months to reach the 10 million mark.

Is It Takes Two the best-selling game directed by Josef Fares?

Fares made his games industry debut in 2013 with the release of Brothers: A Tales of Two Sons. Developed by Starbreeze Studios and published by 505 Games, it received positive reviews from both critics and players. The game has sold over 800k units since launch.

In 2014, Fares founded Hazelight Studios and later partnered with Electronic Arts. The team’s first project, co-op action-adventure game A Way Out, came out in 2018 to warm reviews. According to Fares, it had sold over 3.5 million copies as of January 2021.

So yeah, It Takes Two has already sold more copies than Brothers: A Tales of Two Sons and A Way Out combined. The game also won multiple awards, including the Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2021.
