According to a new study by market researcher Niko Partners, there are 720 million gamers in China. 75 percent of those live outside the biggest cities. On a related note, smaller cities generate around 70% of game revenue.
720 million represents 51.3% of the country’s entire population. To put that in perspective, last year the gaming community was 48.9%. In 2016, it was 40.5%, and in 2014, it was 29.7%.
As per the firm’s projections, in 2024, China will already have 772 million gamers, That’s more than twice the total population of the United States.
Women and girls account for 48% of gamers in China. And among people aged 18 to 35 years old, only 10% do not play games.
The report also found that gamers in China spend more time playing games than participating in any other activity surveyed.
