Capcom has released its financial report for the six-month period ended September 30, 2024. The Japanese publisher remains optimistic despite a sharp drop in key business metrics.
Monster Hunter Wilds
Financial highlights
- In the first half of FY24/25, Capcom reached net sales of ¥56.4 billion ($367 million) — down 24.7% compared to the same period last year.
- Operating income fell 38.7% year-over-year to ¥20.7 billion ($134.7 million), while net profit was ¥15.2 billion ($99 million), down 39.6%.
- Capcom attributed the decline to a lack of major new release, such as Street Fighter 6, in the first half of the fiscal year. Back catalog titles accounted for 94.6% of all game sales during the period.
- The company expects its operating metrics to increase in H2, with the launch of Monster Hunter Wilds scheduled for February 28, 2025.
- Due to a big bet on the new installment in one of its core franchises, Capcom still aims for the 12th consecutive year of operating profit growth. The company expects it to reach a record ¥64 billion ($416 million) for the full fiscal year ending March 31, 2025.
Capcom’s game sales
- Video game revenue amounted to ¥39.7 billion ($258.7 million), down 35% year-over-year. There were declines in both physical and digital sales — down 68% and 29%, respectively. The only segment to show growth was mobile, which generated ¥2 billion ($13 million) in revenue — 33% year-over-year.
- In H1, Capcom sold over 20 million copies of games, down 11.4% year-over-year. 84.6% of sales were generated outside of Japan, while the share of digital units reached 93.7%.
- Digital sales for PC accounted for 54% of the total, followed by digital sales for console (40%) and physical copies (6%).
- Monster Hunter games took the top four spots on the list of best-selling titles in H1, including Monster Hunter: World (1.76 million units), Iceborne (1.44 million), and Rise (1.36 million). This is another indicator of the huge interest in this IP.
- Other best-selling games include Resident Evil 4 (832k units), Street Fighter 6 (831k), Resident Evil Village (744k), Devil May Cry 5 (713k), and Dragon’s Dogma 2 (695k).
- None of the new releases, including Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, made it into the top 10.
