Super Mario Bros. Wonder has been a huge success for Nintendo, breaking franchise records in terms of launch sales. Let’s compare its figures to previous titles in the long-running series.
In its Q2 briefing, Nintendo announced that Super Mario Bros. Wonder has already reached 4.3 million units sold in its first two weeks.
This makes it the fastest-selling game in the franchise since the company started collecting software sell-through data from the days of the Nintendo DS and Wii.
“Super Mario related titles also tend to sell consistently over a long period of time,” Nintendo said. “We anticipate [Super Mario Bros. Wonder] will be an appealing choice for consumers during the upcoming holiday season and will continue to sell next year onwards as well.”
Launched on October 20, Super Mario Bros. Wonder became the first traditional side-scrolling Mario title since 2012’s Super Mario Bros. U. It received critical acclaim, with an average score of 92/100 on Metacritic.
