Newzoo has shared some data on the highest-grossing and most played games on Nintendo Switch for July 2023. Pikmin topped revenue charts, while Mario Kart 8 continued to show strong numbers even more than six years after launch.

Pikmin was the top Switch game by revenue in July, beating out Zelda, Mario Kart 8, and Fortnite

Top Switch games by revenue in July 2023

  • Newzoo didn’t disclose the exact numbers, but recently published the top 10 games that performed best on Nintendo Switch in July. The data takes into account the US and UK markets.
  • Pikmin 4 was the highest-grossing Switch game during that period despite only launching at the end of July.
  • It managed to top The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Mario Kart 8 by revenue. Fortnite ranked 4th on the list.
  • Interestingly, eight games in the top 10 highest-grossing Switch titles in July were first-party games like Pókemon Scarlet & Violet (#5) and Super Mario Odyssey (#8). This once again shows Nintendo’s power as a platform driven by its own products.
  • Fortnite and Minecraft (#6) were the only third-party titles on the list.

Top Switch games by player engagement in July 2023

  • Fortnite was the top game in terms of monthly active users (MAU) in the US and UK, followed by Tears of the Kingdom and Mario Kart 8.
  • According to another infographic published by Newzoo, Mario Kart 8 also ranked 1st in MAU among all titles in the racing genre. It was also the second most-watched racing game on Twitch, with 2.24 million hours watched.

Newzoo data on Mario Kart 8’s performance in July

  • Newzoo noted that only half of the top 10 games showed positive MAU growth: Mario Kart 8, Minecraft, Fall Guys, Pókemon Scarlet & Violet, and Fortnite.
  • In contrast to the revenue chart, five first-party games entered the top 10 titles by MAU (only two, Zelda and Mario Kart 8, broke into the top 5).
  • However, it is worth noting that the top third-party games on the list are live services like FIFA 23 (#9) or free-to-play titles like Fortnite (#1), Fall Guys (#5), and Rocket League (#7).
