Sea of Stars has proven to be a huge success for Canadian indie developer Sabotage Studio. The game has sold over 250,000 units in its first week.
Sabotage Studio shared the news on X (Twitter), thanking players for their support. “We had projections for the first year, but it only took you all a single week,” the message reads.
Sea of Stars launched on August 29, reaching 100,000 copies sold in the first 24 hours across PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. So it took the game around six days to sell another 150,000 units.
It is also available day-one on subscription services, PS Plus and Game Pass, so its total audience could be larger.

For comparison, Sabotage Studio’s debut game, action platformer The Messenger, sold just under 50,000 copies in its first week. Sea of Stars is selling much faster, not to mention that this time the studio also self-published the game, for which it raised over CA$1.6 million ($1.19 million) on Kickstarter. So it is really a huge success for a small independent team.
Sea of Stars currently holds a “Very Positive” rating on Steam (86% of the 1,936 user reviews are positive), peaking at 8,635 concurrent players (via SteamDB). The game also received positive reviews from critics, with a Metascore ranging from 88 to 90 (depending on the platform).
Right now, Sabotage Studio is already working on its next game. On top of that, the team also plans to release a DLC for Sea of Stars, which should link it to The Messenger (set in the same universe).
