Shortly after Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard was approved in the EU, Infinity Ward has established a new office in Barcelona. The team will collaborate closely with Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile developer Digital Legends.

Infinity Ward sets up new team in Barcelona as part of Activision's pledge to boost EU investment

Infinity Ward announced the formation of a new Spanish team on June 28, stating that “we are increasing our presence in Europe to work alongside our friends at Digital Legends in their Barcelona headquarters.”

Here is who will lead the new effort:

  • Director of Art and Technology Riccard Linde — he has been with Infinity Ward for nine years and has also worked at various Activision units and DICE;
  • Director of Production Peter McCabe — he has been with Infinity Ward for over 11 years in a variety of roles ranging from associate producer to development manager.

“We’re building this new team, which will tap into the incredible talent here in Spain, to focus exclusively on creating industry leading, next-gen quality art for the franchise,” Linde commented.

The new Barcelona team will focus on developing and supporting Call of Duty titles for PC and consoles. Digital Legends, which was acquired by Activision in 2021, will continue to work on CoD: Warzone Mobile.

This is Infinity Ward’s second office in Europe. The studio already operates in Krakow, Poland. According to a job posting from 2022, the studio is now working on an unannounced open world RPG.

Last month, the European Commission approved the Activision Blizzard deal, saying that remedies provided by Microsoft were compelling enough. Shortly after, Bobby Kotick said Activision intends to “meaningfully expand our investment and workforce throughout the EU.”

So the latest move by Infinity Ward is in line with this commitment, as the establishment of a new Call of Duty team in Spain will definitely attract local talent and create new jobs.
