Elden Ring has shown the biggest launch among all FromSoftware’s games. The title has sold 12 million units worldwide since February 25.
More than 1 million units were sold in Japan, FromSoftware said in a press release. All the figures shared by the studio are as of March 14.
“It’s astonishing to see just how many people have been playing Elden Ring,” FromSoftware CEO and president Hidetaka Miyazaki said. “I’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks on behalf of the entire development team.”
Bandai Namco expected Elden Ring to sell over 4 million units in five weeks since its launch. So the game has already exceeded the publisher’s expectations several times.
For comparison, the entire Dark Souls series has sold more than 27 million copies since the first game came out in 2011. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice reached two million units sold in 10 days, and Bloodborne sold more than one million copies on PlayStation 4 in two weeks.
According to GSD, Elden Ring has become the biggest new IP in Europe since The Division in 2016, as well as the biggest game launch since Call of Duty: Vanguard.
