A cool story showing how gaming tech and talent is transcending the medium and enriching other creative industries.

Producer Tom Cummings was awarded $50,000 MegaGrant from Epic Games. He used the grant to create award-winning contemporary-ballet feature film Aberthol.

Filmed on green screen, Aberthol is set in a world created in Unreal Engine. Another way in which the film borrows from the video games industry is that it uses the music score originally composed by Austin Wintory for games The Banner Saga and Horn.

“Unreal Engine is so much more than just a game engine,” Cummings said. “It’s radically changing multiple industries, including media and entertainment. For a small, independent dance company these tools are revolutionary.”
