Roblox announced that the coronavirus pandemic boosted the platform’s user base to over 150 million monthly active users, up from the 115 million it had in February.
The developers’ earnings are also expected to increase this year. According to Roblox, its developer community will earn over $250 million in 2020, up from the $110 million they earned in 2019.
These stats Roblox shared during its virtual RDC event.
The surge in Roblox developers’ earnings is down to a number of factors, such as the platform’s growing library of titles, new development tools, international expansions and the recent introduction of Premium Payouts. This scheme pays developers based on the time Premium subscribers spend in their game. The COVID-19 pandemic has also been a major growth driver.
In other news, the company is currently working on collaboration tools for bigger teams. They will enable devs to allow individual team members and contractors to work only on a certain part of the project. Roblox is also planning to launch automatic machine translation for its supported languages.
