On Tuesday, Nvidia announced that it had to remove Activision Blizzard title from its cloud-based gaming platform GeForce Now. This happened at the request of the publisher, but no explanation was provided at the time.
Now Bloomberg has shed some light on what caused Activision Blizzard’s withdrawal. While Activision Blizzard participated in the beta, it wanted a commercial agreement with Nvidia for its games to appear on the platform after GeForce Now launched. Nvidia, on the other hand, assumed that the gaming giant agreed to stay on for a 90-day initial trial period of the service.
On Thursday, Nvidia issued a statement:
“Activision Blizzard has been a fantastic partner during the GeForce Now beta, which we took to include the free trial period for our founders membership. Recognizing the misunderstanding, we removed their games from our service, with hope we can work with them to re-enable these, and more, in the future.”
While it still doesn’t paint Nvidia in the best light possible, the news is reassuring. At least, Nvidia intends to resume talks with Activision Blizzard on returning their titles.
Hopefully, the service will recover from setbacks like this. While Overwatch, World of Warcraft, and the Call of Duty series are greatly missed on GeForce Now, it still remains the most attractive cloud-based gaming solution for the time being.
