The corporation is allegedly just waiting for the right moment.

These insights were shared by Alex Heath in The Town podcast — a journalist from Sources, who recently served as deputy editor at The Verge. During the conversation, he stated that he “definitely knows” about Disney’s top management’s desire to acquire Epic Games if it ever decides to cease being independent.

However, Heath added that not all Disney executives share this desire, considering the acquisition of Epic Games a bad idea. He did not specify who is “for” and who is “against.”

It is possible that among the supporters of purchasing Epic Games is Disney’s new CEO, Josh D’Amaro. This is indirectly suggested by a recent interview with CNBC by former Disney Chief Strategy Officer, Kevin Mayer. In the interview, Mayer reminded that in 2024, D’Amaro, who was then leading Disney Experiences, supported a $1.5 billion investment in Epic Games, calling it a “great move.”

According to Mayer, Disney is currently looking for ways to increase revenue. He personally believes that if D’Amaro decides to focus more on developing the corporation towards video games, such a shift in direction would be a sensible move.

“I think Epic or some other video game asset would be a great addition to The Walt Disney Company’s asset base,” Mayer opines.

Epic Games itself is currently experiencing challenging times. A week ago, it announced the layoff of a thousand people and plans to cut expenses by $500 million.
