The terms and conditions of the deal are not disclosed.

Ubisoft announced that the acquisition brought back several company veterans. Notably among them are former creative director of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, Xavier Marquis, and former head of Ubisoft Toronto, Alex Parizeau.

Along with the studio, Ubisoft acquired the rights to March of Giants—an upcoming free-to-play MOBA that Amazon Games Montreal had been working on recently. Although Ubisoft will now publish the game, Amazon’s support will not be absent. The corporation promised to assist with marketing March of Giants on Twitch.

This all happened amid a large-scale restructuring at Amazon. Recall that, at the end of October, the corporation announced plans to lay off 14,000 employees from various divisions, including the gaming division. According to information from Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier, Amazon will now allocate less funding for the creation of high-budget games and focus on developing the Luna service and other areas where it “succeeds best.”
