The Association for UK Interactive Entertainment (Ukie) has published a new annual UK Games Industry Census, studying how the pandemic has affected working attitudes and workplace diversity in the country.

Ukie collected answers from 3600 respondents, who provided information about their gender, age, professional backgrounds, and working practices.

Key takeaways from the study

  • 66% of respondents had a full time job in an office pre-pandemic, with only 8% using this model in 2021.
  • 80% of industry professionals worked from home as of autumn 2021, with 11% using a hybrid model.
  • Only 10% of employees would like to return to the office in the future.
  • 38% of games industry professionals would prefer to work from home, while 52% said that they would prefer a hybrid model.

  • 67% of games industry workers in the UK are male, 30% are female, and 3% are non-binary.
  • 18% of respondents were not working in the games industry before the pandemic.
  • 74% of employees work between 33 and 40 hours a week, and 17% work between 41 and 50 hours a week.
